Red, White & Business Ready

Get Ready for a Global Summer (Without the Guesswork)

This summer’s global soccer tournament will put the Kansas City region on a world stage, and the ripple effects won’t stop at the stadium. The tournament runs June 11–July 19, 2026, with Kansas City hosting six matches. The region is projected to welcome 650,000+ visitors across the event window (doubling the Kansas City population).

Here’s the thing: opportunity won’t look the same for every business, and that’s okay. The smartest move you can make right now is to choose your lane:

  • Grow (capture new customers)
  • Support (serve locals hosting guests)
  • Stabilize (reduce disruption for your team and operations)

Your 10-minute readiness self-check (do this this week):

  • Do you serve visitors, travelers, or locals who will host guests?
  • Are you located near hotels, entertainment venues, or cultural attractions?
  • Is your community organizing special events, parties, or activations that could use your products or services?
  • Could you partner with other businesses or create something unique that draws people in?
  • Can you extend hours, add staff, or increase inventory if demand spikes?
  • Do you offer something distinct: local flavor, an experience, or an essential service visitors will need?

If you answered “yes” to 2+, you likely have a real play here. Read more in the KC Game Plan 2026 Play Book.

Local proof point: Whether you’re tourism-based or not, Kearney already welcomes the world. The Jesse James Birthplace hosted visitors from all 50 states and 39 countries in 2025. This is our moment to make that “welcome” visible across town.

One action to take today:

Update your online presence (hours, photos, services/menus, contact info) so visitors (and locals) can find you fast. The businesses that are easiest to find win.

Local heads-up: Plans are underway for a free, family-friendly community event at Jesse James Park on the afternoon of Friday, June 19th with a watch party on a large outdoor screen, activities, food, vendors, and a concert.

More details and a full list of Northland watch party dates will be shared as details are confirmed (pending FIFA approval).
