EDC Executive Director Jim Hampton introduced The 2016 Look North Leadership Award recipients, Northland Neighborhood, Inc., CEO Deb Hermann and retired Gladstone City Manager Kirk Davis. Hampton noted that Hermann began as a neighborhood leader for Gracemor and followed with service on the Kansas City Council and her current role leading NNI. She has also spearheaded neighborhood community`policing efforts, served on the Kansas City Planning Commission and is currently a member of the Public Improvement Advisory Committee, where she serves as chair.
In Gladstone, Davis helped lead one of the most remarkable developments in the Midwest with the city’s creation of a new downtown. Beginning with the construction of a 78,000 square-foot community center, the effort grew with a partnership with the North Kansas City School District to build an attached natatorium, construction of Linden Square and partnerships to build the Northland Innovation Center. Downtown Gladstone now boasts over $100,000,000 in public and private investments and hosts events that draw thousands to the new city center.
