The Kearney Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the Westbrook Care Center has been selected as the Business of the Month for June 2017. We conducted the following interview with owner Steve McDonald:
How long has Westbrook been in Kearney?
What made you decide to open Westbrook Care Center/the Villas ?
My wife and I always had a passion for working in this field. We both have Master’s degrees in Social Gerontology. So this has been our life calling.
What do you feel is unique about Westbrook?
We are one of the very few locally-owned and operated facilities in the State. When a resident or family member needs something there’s no corporate bureaucracy to deal with.
- Chamber Board- Vice President
- Kearney PTO
- Kearney Board of Education
- Kearney Enrichment Council
- Kearney Downtown Redevelopment Group.
Westbrook has also won several awards – please tell us about them!
- Keystone Award
- Best of the Northland (5 years in a row)
There always seems to be lots of events over there. What are some of them that are coming up?
We just had our annual Mother’s Day Tea that included more than 120 guests. Coming up, we will have our Father’s Day BBQ with Beer and Steaks, and we’re already planning our Fall Festival with a band organ, outdoor breakfast and lunch and lots of Fall goodies. In the meantime, we have a calendar full of exciting events including games, musical entertainment cookouts, guest speakers and much more.
In closing, what would you like to say about your company?
The secret to Westbrook’s success is simple – Our Staff. Over 50% have been here 10 years or longer, with several that have been here since we opened in 1995. There is no question- they are what sets Westbrook apart.
